Junior Traffic Training Centre (JTTC)
Recognising the dire lack of practical road safety skills being taught to children, who are particularly vulnerable when it comes to pedestrian fatalities, Syntell and the HCI Foundation came together in 2008 to launch the Junior Traffic Training Centre (JTTC) in partnership with Cape Town Traffic Services.
The JTTC combines practical learning with theoretical lectures in order to teach children about road usage. Situated at Hillstar Traffic Centre in Wetton, the JTTC itself is a large fenced off asphalt quad in which functional traffic lights, road markings and stop streets are used to mimic actual road use situations in order to prepare the children for real-life situations in a safe and controlled simulation.
So far more than 10 000 children have been given the opportunity to learn life-saving skills, which has only occured as a result of strong collaborative efforts. Syntell and the HCI Foundation have been the driving force behind the project and Golden Arrow was delighted to be asked to provide transport for the school children as road safety and community upliftment are both pillars of Golden Arrow’s company ethos. The Company therefore provides a driver and bus on a daily basis so that the children are able to travel safely and free of charge.
